Why this guide has no price list

This site does not publish prices, and any flat number you see online for hydro jetting is a guess about a pipe nobody has looked at. What you can control is understanding what goes into a quote, so you can compare two of them fairly and spot what is missing.

The biggest swing factors are usually access and what the camera finds. A clean, accessible line with a grease problem is a very different job from a root-packed clay lateral with no cleanout and a sag halfway to the street.

Factors that change the quote

FactorWhy it matters
AccessA usable cleanout is the simplest entry. Going through a toilet or roof vent, or adding a cleanout, adds time and work.
Line length and sizeLonger laterals and larger pipes take more time and water to clean.
What is in the pipeLight grease clears faster than dense roots or heavy cast-iron scale.
Camera inspectionBefore and after passes add time but tell you what you are paying for.
Pipe conditionFragile pipe calls for slower, gentler passes.
TimingAfter-hours or weekend calls may be priced differently; ask up front.
Commercial linesGrease loads, business hours and multiple lines change scope.

What a written quote should spell out

  • Which line or lines will be jetted, and from which access point
  • Whether a camera inspection is included before, after, or both
  • Whether you receive the footage
  • Any charge for opening a path with a cable first
  • What happens, and what it costs, if the camera finds a broken pipe
  • Cleanup of the work area
  • The contractor's CSLB license number

Comparing two quotes

A lower number is not cheaper if it covers less work.

Quote that looks low

  • Jetting only, no camera
  • No footage provided
  • Unclear what happens if the line is broken
  • Verbal only

Quote that looks higher

  • Camera before and after
  • Footage and footage marks included
  • Stated next steps if damage is found
  • In writing with license number

Questions to ask about price

  1. Is this a fixed price for the job or based on time?
  2. What would make the final bill different from this quote?
  3. Is the after-cleaning camera pass included?
  4. If you find damage, will you stop and talk to me before doing more work?

Common questions

Why won't anyone give me a price over the phone?

Without seeing access and pipe condition, a phone price is a guess. Some contractors give a range; ask what would move it up or down.

Is jetting worth paying more for than snaking?

On a line with recurring buildup, it can mean fewer repeat calls. On a one-time fixture clog, a snake is often enough.

Does homeowners insurance pay for jetting?

Routine cleaning is usually treated as maintenance. Damage from a sudden backup may be different. Ask your insurer.
