What to ask, and why

How do I check a plumber's license?

Ask for the CSLB license number and look it up at cslb.ca.gov. Confirm the license is active and covers plumbing work.

Should I get more than one quote?

Yes. Compare the same scope: material, number of fixtures, routing, permit, drywall patching and testing. A lower number that leaves out patching or the permit is not a lower price.

What should the written estimate include?

The pipe material, the fixtures and appliances being connected, new shutoff valves, who handles the permit, what drywall work is included, the payment terms and any warranty terms stated in writing.

Is it safe to keep drinking the water before a repipe?

If water is discolored, run the cold tap until it clears and consider having it tested. Questions about the city's water supply can go to Fullerton's water utility.

What if someone pushes for an immediate decision?

Unless a pipe is actively leaking, a repipe is planned work. Shut off the water if needed, then take time to check licenses and compare written quotes.

Who does the work if I hire a company?

Ask whether the company's own employees or subcontractors will do the repipe, and whether those people are covered by the license you checked.
