Why this page has no price list
Repipe prices depend on the specific house, the scope, the material and the contractor, and they change over time. A number quoted online for a different home tells you very little about yours. What you can control is how clearly the scope is written, so that the quotes you collect are actually comparable.
The factors below are the ones that most often explain why two quotes for the same Fullerton house look so different. Use them as a checklist when you read each estimate.
Cost drivers and why they matter
| Factor | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Number of fixtures and bathrooms | Each sink, toilet, shower, appliance and hose bib is another connection and valve. |
| Stories and layout | Two-story homes and long runs need more pipe and more complex routes. |
| Pipe material | Copper and PEX differ in material and labor; the specific type and fittings matter too. |
| Routing and access | An open attic is easier than tight framing, finished ceilings or no attic at all. |
| Main line from the meter | Replacing it adds trenching or outdoor work; leaving it may leave an old problem. |
| Drywall repair scope | Patching only, patching with texture, or full paint can be very different amounts of work. |
| Permit and inspection | Permit handling and inspection scheduling add time and fees. |
| Water heater connections | New connectors, valves or seismic strapping updates may be included or extra. |
| Hidden conditions | Damaged framing, old repairs or code issues found once walls are open. |
Make every quote cover the same things
- Material, including copper type or PEX type and fitting system.
- A list of every fixture and appliance being connected.
- Whether new shutoff valves are included at every fixture.
- Whether the line from the meter to the house is included.
- Who applies for the permit and attends the inspection.
- What drywall work is included: patch, texture, paint.
- How changes are priced if hidden problems are found.
- Payment schedule and any warranty terms, in writing.
When quotes differ widely
- IfOne quote is much lowerCheck whether it leaves out the permit, patching, the main line or some fixtures.
- IfQuotes use different materialsAsk each contractor to price the same material so you can compare, then decide on material separately.
- IfOne quote has many allowances or vague linesAsk for specifics. Vague lines are where change orders tend to appear.
Ask about the price
- Is this a fixed price for the written scope?
- What would cause the price to change after work starts?
- Which items are excluded?
- What is your CSLB license number?
Common questions
Is PEX always less expensive than copper?
It often involves less labor, but not always. Get both priced for your house if you are undecided.
Does a bigger house always cost more?
Fixture count and routing usually matter more than square footage alone.
Should drywall repair be part of the plumbing quote?
It can be either way. What matters is knowing who does it and how far it goes before the walls are opened.
