Will someone need to open a wall or floor?
Sometimes. Before work starts, ask where the openings go, how big they'll be, and whether patching is in the price.
How do I avoid paying for work I don't need?
Ask what was found, how it was confirmed, and what happens if you wait. On bigger jobs, get a second written estimate.
What if the problem comes back?
Get the contractor's answer in writing before the job, and keep the invoice that lists the parts.
Do I need a permit for this repair?
Small fixture repairs usually don't. Water heater replacement and repiping may. Check with the City of Fullerton or have the contractor confirm.
Who will be in my house?
Ask whether the contractor's own employees or subcontractors will do the work, and check the license and insurance of whoever shows up.
