What to do with the results
Anything marked 'needs attention' is worth showing a licensed plumber, ideally on a normal weekday visit. Missing straps and a blocked relief valve pipe are safety items rather than cosmetic ones. Rust or moisture at the tank body can mean the heater is nearing failure, which is easier to plan for now than at midnight.
Common questions
Do tankless heaters need straps?
Wall-mounted tankless units are installed differently. Ask a plumber what applies to yours.
The relief valve pipe drips occasionally. Is that normal?
It can mean pressure or temperature is too high, or the valve is worn. Have it checked.
How often should I do this check?
Once or twice a year is a reasonable habit, and after any earthquake.
