What to ask, and why

How do I check a plumber's license?

Ask for the CSLB license number and look it up at cslb.ca.gov. The record shows whether the license is active and what it covers.

Someone wants to break the slab before finding the leak. Is that normal?

No. Leak location comes first. Ask how they pinpointed the leak and how sure they are before anyone cuts concrete.

How do I compare a spot repair quote with a reroute quote?

Ask each contractor which line they will repair or replace, how they will open and restore floors or walls, and what they leave out. Compare scope first, then the total.

Who handles flooring, drywall and drying?

Plumbing quotes often stop at the pipe and a basic patch. Get the restoration scope in writing so you know what to arrange yourself.

What should the job paperwork include?

A written scope, the price, the contractor's license number, who does the work, and whether a permit applies. Check with the city if you are unsure about permits.

How will I know the repair worked?

Watch the meter stand still with every fixture off after the pressure test. Run the meter test yourself again a few days later.
