The setup
A Fullerton house has a sewer lateral that runs along the side yard before turning toward the street. Two branch lines join it on the way: one from a back bathroom addition and one from the laundry. The camera inspection shows roots and cracks along the run but a round pipe throughout, so lining from the cleanout is proposed.
Both branch connections will be covered when the liner is installed. The plan must reopen each one, or those drains would be blocked.
How the connections are handled
- Map the taps.During the pre-lining inspection, the distance to each branch connection is recorded from the counter.
- Clean thoroughly.Roots and debris are removed, including at the connections.
- Install and cure the liner. The liner covers the full run, including both branch openings.
- Reinstate.A remote cutter travels to each recorded distance and cuts the liner open at the branch.
- Verify. The final video pauses at each opening to show it is fully open with clean edges.
- Test. The bathroom and laundry drains are run to confirm flow.

Common questions
Do all lateral lining jobs involve branch connections?
Not all. Some laterals have a single connection at each end. The camera inspection shows how many there are.
Are connections sealed after reinstating?
Some systems add a seal at the connection. Ask what your installer uses.
Is this a real job?
No. It is an invented example.
