How to use these worksheets

The meter guide explains the method; this page gives you somewhere to write it down. Use the overnight test when you suspect a slow leak, the isolation worksheet when the meter is definitely moving, and the monthly log as a routine habit. Fullerton bills from its own city meter readings, so your own numbers can also help if you need to talk to the city about a bill.

Record the full number on the meter's register, including any digits after the decimal or the sweep hand position, so small changes are visible.

Common questions

What units does the meter show?

Meters register volume in units set by the utility. Write down the number as shown and compare like with like; your bill explains the units used.

Can I use photos instead of writing readings down?

Yes. Dated photos are good records. Keep them in one album so they are easy to share.

The indicator moved once then stopped. Is that a leak?

A single short movement may be a toilet or appliance refilling. Repeat the test and check toilets with the dye test.
