What to ask, and why
How do I check a plumber's license?
Ask for the CSLB license number and look it up at cslb.ca.gov. Confirm it's active and covers plumbing.
Someone wants a full repipe right away. Now what?
Ask what the detection found, how many leaks there are and what the pipe looked like. A second opinion on a big job is reasonable.
Is detection priced apart from the repair?
Often. Ask what the visit includes and get any price in writing before work starts.
What should I ask before concrete is opened?
How the spot was confirmed, how big the opening will be, how the floor gets patched and who replaces the flooring.
Can I keep using water while I wait?
For a small, contained leak, yes, carefully, with the main closed when you're out. If water is spreading or near electrical, keep the main shut.
Will you check for mold?
Plumbers fix the leak. Mold assessment is a separate trade. If drywall or flooring stayed wet for days, ask your insurer about drying and an inspection.
