What to ask, and why

How do I check a plumber's license?

Ask for the CSLB license number and look it up at cslb.ca.gov. Confirm the license is active and covers plumbing.

Should I get the price in writing?

Yes. Ask for the scope and price on paper before work starts, with each part named.

Does regulator or repipe work need a permit?

Some plumbing work requires a permit and inspection. It depends on the job, so check with the City of Fullerton or ask whether the plumber will pull one.

What if someone wants to replace everything at once?

Ask what the gauge showed and why each part is needed. A clear diagnosis explains the recommendation. A second opinion on a large job is reasonable.

How will they protect my slope and walls?

Ask how they plan to reach buried lines, whether digging is needed and how drainage, plants and retaining walls get protected or restored.

Who does the work?

Ask whether the licensed contractor's own employees or subcontractors will be on site, and who you call if something goes wrong afterward.
