Common questions
Should I try to clear the drain while waiting?
For a main line backup, no. Stop using water and wait. For a single slow sink, cleaning the stopper or trap is fine if no chemicals were used.
Do I need to be home?
It helps, so you can describe the problem, approve the work and see any camera footage.
What if the cleanout is under a deck or concrete?
Tell the plumber in advance. They may plan to use a toilet instead, or talk about adding accessible access.
