Why there is no single price

Two calls that both start with a clogged drain can be very different jobs. A bathroom sink cleared through the trap is a short visit with a hand tool. A main line packed with roots, reached only by pulling a toilet, and followed by a camera inspection is a much larger one.

Companies also price differently. Some charge a flat rate for a defined service, some charge by time, and some separate the trip, the cleaning and the inspection. None of those approaches is wrong, but they are hard to compare unless you ask what is included.

Factors that affect the bill

FactorWhy it matters
Which line is blockedA fixture branch is shorter and smaller than the main line or lateral.
AccessA usable exterior cleanout is faster than pulling a toilet or working through a roof vent.
What the clog isHair and paper clear quickly; dense roots or hardened grease take longer.
MethodCabling, jetting and descaling use different equipment and time.
Camera inspectionOften a separate line item; worth asking whether it is included.
TimingSome companies price evenings, weekends and holidays differently.
Pipe conditionFragile or damaged pipe may need slower work or lead to repair recommendations.
Follow-up workResetting a toilet, adding a cleanout or repairs are separate from the cleaning itself.

Ask before work starts

Comparing two quotes fairly

Look for

  • The same scope: which line, which method
  • Whether a camera inspection is included
  • What happens if more work is needed
  • A written price or a clear way it is calculated

Be cautious about

  • A very low price that only covers arriving
  • Pressure to approve a large repair on the spot
  • Repair recommendations without footage to back them
  • Verbal-only pricing
  1. Can I see the footage or photos that show the problem?
  2. What are the repair options for that section?
  3. Does the work need a permit, and who pulls it?
  4. Can I take some time to get a second opinion?

Common questions

Why won't this site list drain cleaning prices?

Prices depend on the line, the access and what is found, so a number on a web page would be guesswork. This is also a preview site: we have not published pricing, and the request form is not connected yet.

Is the cheapest quote the best choice?

Not necessarily. Compare what is included, whether the contractor is licensed, and what happens if the first attempt does not clear the line.

Do I have to approve a repair right after a cleaning?

No. You can ask for the findings in writing and take time to consider options, unless sewage is actively backing up.
