Set your interval

  1. Look at your history

From your symptom log, find the typical time between stoppages.

  2. Pick a cleaning point

Plan cleaning comfortably before that interval, not right at it.

  3. Write the dates down

Fill in the calendar below and set phone reminders a few weeks ahead.

  4. Adjust after each visit

If the cable brings back little, the interval may be longer. If it brings back a lot, shorten it.

Every few months, without a plumber

  • Check that the outdoor cleanout cap is intact and not buried.
  • Note any new gurgling or slow drains in the symptom log.
  • Remind the household about wipes and grease.
  • Check sink strainers and the washer lint trap.

After each cleaning visit, record

  • Date, method and access point.
  • What came out: roots, grease, scale or paper.
  • Whether the plumber thought the defect looked worse.
  • Whether a camera check was done and where the video is saved.

Common questions

Is there a standard interval for root cleaning?

No. It depends on the tree, the pipe and the gaps. Your own stoppage history is the best guide.

Should I clean right after a stoppage and again soon after?

Ask the plumber what came out and what the camera showed. That decides whether an early follow-up is useful.

Can I use this calendar for a water heater too?

This one is built for sewer lines. Other systems have their own maintenance needs.
