The eastern hills
Neighborhoods off Weir Canyon Road are generally among the later parts of Anaheim Hills to be developed, with many homes newer than those closer to the 55 and 57 freeways. Construction is still largely slab-on-grade on graded lots. Because building practices changed over the decades, the supply pipe in a given house may be copper or another material; the only way to know is to look at exposed pipe or ask a plumber.
These homes are within the City of Anaheim, served by the city's water utility.
Newer vs older Anaheim Hills homes
Older homes in the western hills
- Copper supply lines under the slab are typical
- Pipe has been in service for decades
- More likely to have had earlier leak repairs
Newer homes in the eastern hills
- Pipe material varies by build date; check yours
- Less time in service, but not immune to leaks
- Installation details matter as much as age
Find out what pipe you have
- Look at the water heater.Check the pipes entering and leaving the heater in the garage.
- Look under sinks. The pipe coming out of the wall or floor to the shutoff valve gives a clue.
- Check documents.Purchase disclosures or builder paperwork sometimes mention plumbing materials.
- Ask a plumber. At any service visit, ask what supply material the house uses and how it typically fails.

Common questions
Do newer homes get slab leaks?
They can, though age is one of the factors in many leaks. Run the same meter test whenever you notice signs.
Are sewer laterals a concern in newer areas?
Roots can enter laterals in any area with established landscaping. Slow drains or backups are the signs to watch.
Who handles the meter if it is damaged?
The meter belongs to the city's water utility. Contact Anaheim Public Utilities.
