What to ask, and why
How do I check a plumber's license?
Ask for the CSLB license number and look it up at cslb.ca.gov. Confirm it is active, covers plumbing, and matches the name of the company you are hiring.
Who handles the gas meter if it needs an upgrade?
SoCalGas handles the meter and its side of the line. Your plumber handles the piping from the meter outlet to the unit and can tell you what to request.
Do I need a permit to replace a water heater in Fullerton?
Water heater and gas work often need a permit in California. Ask who pulls it, and check with the City of Fullerton if you want to confirm what your job needs.
What belongs in a written estimate?
Make and model, vent material and route, gas work, service valves, relief valve, condensate drain if needed, permit, haul away of the old tank, and the total before work starts.
Does an error code mean the unit is dead?
Rarely. Most codes point to ignition, flow, venting or scale, and most of those are fixable. Write the code down and share it, so the diagnosis starts in the right place.
Will you work on the brand I already have?
Ask us before the visit. Warranty repairs on some brands need a technician the manufacturer approves, so check your warranty paperwork first.
